Cage - Lord have mercy (song up soon)

Cage and fellow weathermen Yakballz will be playing a show at the Orange Peel on Monday January 22nd. This will be the first performance by Cage in Asheville.

As most Hip Hop shows go in Asheville promotion will probably be weak. So I feel it’s necessary to put the word out about Cage and other true Emcees coming to Asheville. Though I was reluctant at first to promote this show because of Cages past work mostly on the shock-jock tip. I put that aside and looked at his recent growth as one of the best story tellers of this decade.

From the beginning Cage felt the force of addiction at a young age with a abusive father (Army Sargeant Bill Murry) being hauled of to jail for wielding a shot gun and threatening his family…

His stories are better expressed and articulated by himself, he doesn’t hold back lyrically on Hell’s winter (his most recent Def Jux release) on the experiences of his childhood or his wild ass teen year which through his mom’s pleading landed him not in jail but instead in a mental hospital for years of his life. Not to say his adult life has been anymore pleasant, riddled with addiction and suicidal tendencies.

That said his earlier releases can be placed along side the shock jock-drug rap of Necro, Cage’s lyrics come out articulate but extreme in all ways possible on his early releases, a lot of times for pure shock value and for the sake of the take down akin to the battle rap style. I can’t really say I enjoy this particular genre of rap nor do I find it witty to talk about women so negatively in just about every song not only is it ignorant and damaging but is cliché at this point in the hip hop game. But luckily Cage decided to depart from his persona on his last album, and in turn has seemingly expanded in a strong way leading to a more guanine form Lyricism.
Also playing is the Jersey based Hip Hop outfit Slow Suicide Stimulus and DJ Crazy Glue.
